LUMINA IPL HANDSET AND ITS USAGE
You can use the information below in conjunction with the User Manual supplied with the handset.
IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light; it is a scattered light of many wavelengths, released like a light photo-flash. IPL is quite similar to laser but safer. Laser is a concentrated high-intensity beam of light that targets one spot at a time; on the other hand, IPL targets a wider body-area and works as stimulating light, making it effective for hair removal and other skincare benefits.
The intense pulsed light targets the pigment in the hair follicle called Melanin; which absorbs energy and heat from the light. This stimulates the hair to go into resting phase and the hair falls out on its own. The treatment causes the body to grow less and less hair after each session until you get hair-free smooth skin
IPL is completely safe to use; in fact, the technology has been around for some time now and is widely considered to be safer than conventional laser. The IPL treatment is used at homes, skin-care clinics and salons. Additionally, Lumina’s IPL handset has CE, FCC and RoHS manufacturer-certifications, making it safety complaint with the regulatory bodies in different countries.
Please take standard pre-cautionary measures, such as not to use the handset near tub filled with water, as the handset is a wired electric device and is hooked to the power supply while in use. Moreover, if you have a known skin disorder or if you are not sure what you should do, please consult a medical expert such as as a dermatologist or doctor before using the IPL handset. We recommend the IPL handset be used age 18 and above. Please note that it's the user's responsibility to know whether or not the IPL treatment is safe to use in their own personal case.
The IPL handset is specifically designed for home treatment; hence making it very easy to operate and use. Please follow the steps below to operate the handset.
HOW TO OPERATE
1. Use medical alcohol wipe to clean the Flash Window.
2. Hook up the power cord with the power supply and press the Power Button located on the backside of the handset. The green light will come on the power indicator located on the backside of the handset; you will hear the sound of handset running.
3. On the frontside of the handset, there’s a light indicator panel. The first light is “red”, it will start flickering when the handset is moved close to human body, it means the handset is ready to use.
4. Using the Power button on the backside of the handset to select the intensity level. The handset has 5 intensity levels.
5. At this point the red light must be flickering when the handset is moved closed to the body. Make sure it is in straight 90-degree angle with the body surface. Now press the Flash Button on the frontside, this will make the Flash Window to release pulsed light (as flash). At this point the red light will disappear to re-charge for the next flash. After 1 to 3 seconds the red will come back on; now you are ready to use the Flash Button again.
6. By default, the IPL handset turns on in Manual mode which is suitable for smaller areas such as armpits and upper lips. To change to Auto mode, long press the Flash Button for 2-3 seconds, auto mode is suitable for large body areas such as arms and legs.
HOW TO USE
1. Shave the body area you want to use the IPL handset on. Try not to wax or use an epilator as these treatments are painful, leave redness and remove the hair from its root. You want the root to stay intact so that the pulsed light from the IPL handset can target it and start eliminating the hair growth.
2. Clean the handset’s Flash Window and clean any residual hair from the last use.
3. Start the handset and select the best suitable intensity level that you feel comfortable with.
4. Start the treatment process by putting the Flash Window on the body once at a time, complete the whole area and repeat the process 2-3 times to get perfect results. You can select between Manual or Auto modes. As explained, for small body areas such as upper lip, use the manual mode, for large areas such as legs and arms, you can use the auto mode; in this case you do not have to press the Flash Button for each flash.
5. Once you are done with the treatment you can cool off the skin by using Ice water or a cold damp towel. You can also use a toner to help your skin retain moisture.
Note:
- Wearing sunglasses while using the handset is not mandatory as the IPL handset comes with an built-in sensor that makes the handset flash only when it is in direct contact with the body surface at 90-degree angle; however, we recommend you wear sunglasses as double safety.
- For the first session, conduct a skin test two hours in advance of any hair removal procedure. For example, test it on a small area on inside of the upper arm (the medial).Test from low energy to high energy and apply 1 to 2 times on the same body area. After 2 hours if you feel high levels of redness, burns, stabbing pain or other symptoms consult a doctor before using it again. On slight discomfort, use the handset again on a lower intensity setting, however if discomfort continues, consult a doctor before further use.
To achieve permanent results, you will be completing an IPL treatment cycle or regimen. The cycle usually consists of 8 to12 sessions. The number of sessions depends on what works best for your hair type. We recommend you stick to a 8 to 12-session treatment cycle. Generally, you can choose from one of the following plans.
Once Every Two Weeks - (Less Frequent)
• Use it once every two weeks for the first 6 sessions (completing the first 6 sessions in 12 weeks).
• Use it once every four weeks for sessions 7 to 10 (based on requirement).
• After that, touch up in 2 to 3 months if needed.
Once A Week - (Frequent)
• Use it once a week for 12 sessions (completing the 12 sessions in 12 weeks).
• Use it once every four weeks for the next 3 months (based on requirement).
• After that, touch up in 2 to 3 months if needed.
Note:
- You will start seeing visible difference after 2 to 3 sessions. To get perfect results, you must complete the treatment cycle.
- If you see hair growing after a week or so since the last session, it’s normal, the hair is being ejected from heat and light energy absorption, let it fall out naturally - please do not pluck or wax your hair.
- Everyone’s body is different and reacts differently. Some people may experience re-growth of hair; however, the hair will be a lot less dense and thinner, simply continue to use the IPL handset until desired results are achieved.
Generally, IPL treatment is safe to apply on whole body, however, to ensure safety, avoid using the IPL handset in the conditions and/or on the body areas given below:
1. After sun bathing or tanning, since it darkens the skin tone. Wait for 2 to 3 days before you start regaining your original skin color. If you were directly exposed to really strong sunlight and UV rays for an extended time then wait for 10 to 14 days. Avoid using it over artificial tanning treatments, get rid of all such tan before using the IPL handset. You can get the tanning treatment after you have undergone the IPL treatment.
2. Directly over moles, freckles or any cuts.
3. Over genitalia (private parts) as skin tone tends to be darker in those areas (completely avoid on such areas). You can use the handset around bikini line and other sensitive areas though but set the intensity to a lower level and/or adjust the level where you feel comfortable.
4. Make sure, the body area you intend to use the IPL handset on, is free of any creams, lotions, gel, perfume etc. The IPL handset should be used on clean skin.
5. Although there’s no evidence that IPL treatment could be harmful while breastfeeding or in pregnancy but we recommend you avoid using the handset in such conditions or use it after consulting your doctor.
6. Chemical peels, Collagen injections and Tattoos (as the skin pigmentation will interfere with the hair melanin)
7. The IPL handset can be used on face however you must avoid using it on and around eyes and forehead.
Lumina IPL handset can be used by both men and women. Men should be careful with what body areas to use the IPL handset on. Note that if used on chest and facial hair, the hair will start thinning and disappear with time.
IPL handset is an electric device, you can share it with others so long as it’s been thoroughly cleaned and there’s no chance of transmitting any disease. We recommend you wipe it with medical alcohol wipes to kill the germs before and after lending it to others.
IPL targets melanin in the hair follicle and detects the hair by comparing the melanin with the skin pigment. For this reason, the IPL treatment is not as effective on Dark Brown and Black skin-colors with black or darl colored hair. IPL renders perfect results on White, Yellow. Light Brown (Wheat) and Medium Brown skin-colors.
Also, IPL treatment works the best with Black, Light/Medium/Dark Brown hair-colors. If your hair-color is White, Red or Light Golden, then you may not get the best results.
The best thing about Lumina IPL handset is that there's no recurring cost associated with its use. Unlike frequent shaving and waxing; where you keep on spending money on supplies, buying IPL handset is a one-time cost only. The idea is to target the unwanted hair at root so that you can avoid the hassle of hair removal and save money over time.
Lumina IPL handset can produce up to 500,000 flashes, which means it can last up to 6 to 8 years or even more, so long as you use it as described and with necessary care. In any case, once you have stopped growing hair, you can stop the IPL treatment even after the first few months.

We accept credit/debit card and PayPal payment methods. Select your preferred method on the cart page. All our transactions are fully secure and encrypted. If you wish to pay using your local currency credit or debit card, you are welcome to use it, as long as the card has Visa, Master, Amex etc. sign on it - the payment will be automatically processed in USD. Most of our customers use debit or credit card in their own currency to pay for the order.
You can also use the currency convertor located in the Menu on top; the item price shown in the currency other than USD is only indicative. When you use your local currency card, your bank will apply the exchange rate and the payment will be automatically processed in USD..

Gift card and discount / coupon codes can be used on the checkout page, under the order summery section. Only one code can be used at a time. The code can also be used on items that are already on sale. Some discount codes are for limited time only and others do not have an expiration date. Gift cards do not have an expiration date.

We understand that at times you may want to return an item or get it replaced if it becomes faulty. For this reason, we give you a multi-level return and purchase protection. Please read carefully and understand the different options you have in each particular case.
14- Day Return
All purchases made on our online store come with 14-Day return period. In case you need funds to attend to an emergency or even if you want to return the item when there’s no technical problem, you can do so within 14 days of receiving it. We must receive the item back to the warehouse within 14 days of you receiving it at your address. You must bear the item return shipping charges. Please make sure the packaging is intact and the item is unused. Upon receiving the item, we will do the necessary inspection and if everything is in acceptable condition, we will issue the complete refund equivalent to the item price within 10 business days.
In case there’s a technical problem with the item, please refer to the User Manual first to see if it can be fixed. If the problem persists, please write to us, we may ask you for a picture/video of the problem, if the problem is not resolved, we will ask you to return the item even if it’s been opened or used. Upon inspecting the item, we will either send you a replacement item or refund your money within 10 business days of receiving it. We will also refund the return shipment cost to you. Please make sure the item is received in our warehouse within the 14-day period to enjoy free return.
Please send us an email on care@luminasilkyskin.com from the same email you used to make the purchase. Please include the Order No. and Name of the buyer in the email. We will get back with instructions which warehouse to return the item. For non-North American and non-European customers, the returning address will be our logistics partner’s warehouse in either China or HK. For North American and European, it will depend on where the Item was originally shipped from.
If you want to exchange the item for a different variant of the same value when there’s no technical problem, you can also do that within the 14-day return period; as long as the item is unused and is in the original packing. Upon inspection, we will ship the item of your choice, both return and reshipment charges must be borne by the customer. We will send you a payment link for re-shipment charges in email.
30-Day Buyer’s Protection
In case the item you received is not same as how it’s described or not received at your address in the stipulated time, you can request for a complete refund with in 30 days of your purchase. We will require you to send us a picture/video of your concern and if the problem is at our end, we will refund you the full amount within 10 business days. Please send us an email on care@luminasilkyskin.com from the same email you used to make the purchase. Please include the Order No. and Name of the buyer in the email.
UPDATE (COVID19): Due to delays in international flights linked to Covid19 restrictions, the delivery time could be affected. Although most of our orders are still on or before time, however, exceptions may occur in current times. For 30-Day Buyer’s Protection to be affected, please allow additional 7 days on top of the delivery/shipping time of your order.
12-Month Warranty
Your IPL handset comes with a 12-Month Warranty from the time of you receiving the item. In case, there’s a technical issue with the item after the 14-day return period, pleases send us an email on care@luminasilkyskin.com from the same email you used to make the purchase. Please include the Order No. and Name of the buyer in the email.
We will ask you to send us the item to our warehouse (using any shipping method but we must receive the item within 12 months from the time of you receiving it). Please fill in the Warranty card, sign it and send it along with the item to our warehouse. Upon inspection and if the item is not mishandled, we will get the manufacturer to replace the item or send you a replaced item. Please note that since the return is after the 14-day period (that gives you free return shipping when there’s a technical issue) the return and re-shipping cost must be borne by the customer - however, the item labor or replacement cost will be covered by us.
Depending on the customer’s location and stock availability, your order could be shipped from one of our logistic partners’ warehouses in US, China/HK or Europe. All shipping/delivery times are in business days. There's an order processing time of 1-2 days in addition to the shipping/delivery time, although most of our orders are processed within one day.
Order Processing Time is the time required for the warehouse team to pick, pack and prepare your order for delivery. Shipping confirmation and tracking code will be sent to you in email or SMS. For more details, please check our shipping policy.
Offering FREE Express Shipping adds to our cost - which is high as the package is delivered in 4 to 7 days. Mostly, retailers offer Free Standard Shipping and the delivery is made in 3 to 4 weeks. We believe they save on shipping cost at the expense of customer’s convenience. This is a dis-service to the customer and far from the customer service principles we believe in.
We deal with great logistic partners who have managed to secure competitive express shipping rates that we can absorb in the price - however, this is only valid for selected countries. If your country is not one of them, please select a shipping plan that is available in your country. We offer Free Standard Shipping of 10 to 15 days for all other countries and our Super Express Shipping rates are lower than what others are charging. Find more on shipping policy.
Customs Duty: It is mostly applicable on commercial-level purchases; for instance, in the US, customs duty is usually applied when the order amount is over USD 1,000.00 - which means customer do not have to pay customs duty in most cases.
Similarly, for other countries the order amount threshold value is relatively high before customs duty is levied. For example, in KSA and UAE, customs duty is generally applied when the order amount is above SAR 1000.00 or AED 1000.00 respectively. Again, in most cases, you don't have to worry about customs duty. Please contact your local authorities to know the latest rates and regulation.
However, if there's any customs/excise duty applied by the Customs in the destination country, it must be paid by the customer.
Sales Tax/VAT: Usually Sales tax or VAT is NOT the customer’s responsibility to remit to the government and in most cases you don’t have to worry about it. Our prices are inclusive of the sales tax in the US and we remit them to the US government if there are any sales taxes applicable.
Generally, the Sales Tax or VAT has to be paid by the merchant and not the customer; which means the customer does not have to pay the Sales tax or VAT. We don't know of any instance where customers are asked to pay the Sales Tax or VAT at the border, since it's not the customer's responsibility. However, depending on the local regulations we can't say the same thing for all countries. In case there's a non-Sales or Sales Tax/VAT applied by the customs in your country, we suggest you speak to them and get it waived off. You can also contact your local authorities to know the regulations in the country.
